The Church Cat

Meet the church cat

Hello humans. My name is Bela and I am the church cat. I adopted my humans when I found them wandering or as they say “working” at the church office in November of 2020. I had just moved into a storage shed under the stairs when I heard them pull up. There was a tall human and a tiny human. They heard my song of greeting and came down to welcome me to the neighborhood. It was then they invited me into the church. The tiny human is full of energy just like me and we bonded immediately. So much so that I was invited to their home to continue the play date. The tiny human gave me the name Bela. I like it.

I quickly realized that I enjoyed being with these humans and decided that I would live in their house with them so that I could continue to entertain and play with the tiny human. It did take some time to convince the alpha of the pack to let me stay, but I proved my worth by getting a “job” to do my part. This is how I became the church cat.

The tall human claimed at first that I was going to the office with them so I could be “potty trained”. It was quickly discovered that humans think that I am “cute”, and I make them smile. Occasionally one of them will need a snuggle. I couldn’t ignore that I am the purrfect candidate for this position, so I knew I had to keep coming to the office.

During the week I accompany my humans to the church. I am the official greeter for the office. When you come to the door, you will likely see me in the office window, as I alert the office humans to the guest at the door. Sometimes I can be found curled up on the minister’s couch. I also have taken on the responsibility of reminding the humans to stop and smell the roses, or in the case stop and pet the cat. You could say that I spoil these humans, but sometimes they just need a purr or a nip to remind them to enjoy the present.

It seems very easy for humans to get caught up in “news” and “stress”. Their world seems to be uncertain at times, and it can take a toll on them. Sometimes they need help to see the good in the world. With all the noise that surrounds them, all it takes is a purr or a small nip to remind them that good things are not usually loud. That’s why it can be hard to find them. I hope that you find the good and take the time to enjoy it. One of my favorite moments are when those feathery things sit outside the window and tweet. I could watch them for hours, but as for now it’s time to curl up next to the tiny human. The next time you walk by the office window, remember to wave, and I will send a purr your way.
