May musings of the church cat

I am going to level with you humans, it is not easy or fun learning to be a “good boy”.  In fact, for the first couple of weeks with my humans I started to believe my name was “No Bela! Get Down.” I love the praise and treats that come when I make the “right choices”.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of temptations that surround me.

The kitchen counter is a fascinating place! Sometimes there is yummy food that I have come to find out is not mine, but it smells soooo good. Other times my tall humans play this game called cleaning the kitchen.   It is great fun to sneak attack those fabric things that they are swooping around on the countertop. My tall humans will tell me to stop, place me on the ground, and the game starts over.

Bathrooms are another of my favorite places.  However, it is apparently frowned upon to drink out of the toilet.  My tall human is constantly reminding me that there are two “fountains” in the house with freshwater and asks why I would rather have toilet water.  She clearly doesn’t get it.  She also seems to get frustrated when I try to help them by pre-unrolling the toilet paper for them.  So ungrateful.

So, you may ask, “if all the wrong choices are so fun, why do you even try to be good?” that is a fantastic question with a very simple answer: my tiny human.  She is my favorite human, and I love being with her. When she is around there this rumbling starts in my chest.  My tall humans call this purring.  She is the perfect human to snuggle with and she is a great playmate.  If being good means I get to stay with her, it is worth it. She is even worth the occasional spritz of water that comes when I ignore what I am being told to do.  It’s funny how it seems the best things always come to you after the hard work.

I hope you have someone in life that is your reason for trying to do the right thing.  It’s always nice to take a step back from the frustrations and remember why you are doing what you are doing.  For me my tiny human is definitely worth it all and I will continue to work hard to the right thing.  Well, speaking of my tiny human, her school day is almost over which means she will be coming to the office soon.  I need to go take a nap so that I am ready to play when she gets here.
